If any of you have been on the fence about joining, I encourage you to do so now. It’s 650+/- votes to recall the current Board. Yeah, you could pass it off to someone else to do, but that’s just kinda lame.
This is eaaaaaaaaaasy activism.
You join, vote against the Board, and then Hiller can keep his job being the bulldog he is. See, easy as pie. If you want to talk with me outside the Forum on this, call/text/PM/email. I am happy to convince you this is the right thing.

Is it 650 votes to actually recall them, or 650 signatures to trigger a membership-wide recall election?

Good question.
There are bylaws! (I only have them as a PDF and can't drop them into google docs to share thanks to work internet filters.) This reads like removal of those people, period. Then there would be an election to bring in a new board.
Article XI - Removal of Officers or Directors, Section 1. "An Officer or Director may be recalled by the membership in the following manner: A petition stating the grounds for the recall and signed by at least one hundred (100) members of five percent (5%) of the membership, whichever is greater ...."

I am texting Beau RIGHT NOW.
Edit: Beau will only join + vote against the board if I DON'T get a tramp stamp. Other tattoo placements are acceptable.

These guys are brilliant. They changed the club bylaws so that existing board members select new board members. No messy democracy.
So rather than this being a debate among members, it's a contest to see who's best at procedural dirty tricks.
Dear cascade board: we're coming for you. Bastards.

"If you purchase a membership through this screen it can take up to 10 days to process the membership."
fucking incompetent. also a search for "cascade bicycle club" doesn't even have cascade.org as the first hit. it's the education foundation, then the blog, then a bunch of other shit.
recall the board, hire webmaster.
I can't wait for my member card to arrive when it's mailed out on Thursday!

All signed up. Thanks for the encouragement Laura.
My favorite (thus far): Due to outdated bylaws, the "membership" technically have some say in club activities. We have the best legal people working to fix this

I woke up this morning and had an email saying they were following me; was very confused but didn't have time to check it until just now. Lulz. The Cascade Safety Pledge!

They made him promise that he'd quit before them gave him his job back.
I bet if the entire board is fired, he might be talked in to staying.

Still to be determined. The recall petition people aren't sharing #'s with me and even if they were it might not be wise to publish that on the internet.
Safe to assume signatures are still needed.
I wrote a little something-something on Seattle Likes Bikes and submitted my letter to the editor for the (dear god) December issue of the Cascade Courier. http://seattlelikesbikes.org/wordpress/?p=551
If any of you are bloggers that cover cycling in Seattle more coverage would be great. Or use your cycling mailing lists (BTM, you got a mailing list for Bryan McLellan's Critical Mass?). There's a collection of articles and blog posts on this issue available here: http://bikeclubrescuesquad.org/in-the-news/
If anyone has the time and interest to help advertise this to the UW community, that would be great. I am entirely detached from that universe, so it's a bit inauthentic coming from me.
If anyone wants to mail some TUMS to the Board members since they get indigestion from Cascade advocacy efforts, well, that would be funny. http://www.cascade.org/About/board.cfm
For those of you that have already signed the petition, my sincerest thanks. Now can you each find *one* other person to sign it as well? It's a mere $15 for the limited income/student membership. $35 for the individual. Many of us spend that amount in beer + tater tots on a given Thursday night.

derrick, did you get contacted by the "ED Selection Committee"? it seems cascade might be a dysfunctional organization and you've got just the medicine they need to grow their members.

check your spam folder, Derrick. Usually emails relating to ED or growing members go there.
Thanks to those of you that actually became members/renewed membership and signed the petition - it worked.

I hope the door DOES hit 'em on the ass as they leave. My concern is how is Ayers going to get rehired? They're pretty clear in that blog that they will be approving the new ED before they resign.
