It has come to my attention that some of you do not own suits. Or perhaps you do own a suit but it is ill fitting. Or perhaps you are like Rogelio and you own many fine clothes but are crippled by a terrible addiction?
In any of those cases, I've been investigating getting a bespoke (read: tailor made) suit for myself because I am a classy gentleman who deserves classy things (and also because I have a "unique life shape"). One of the places recommended to me on Questionland was excelsuits.com, which is based out of Thailand and is supposedly quite well known in Asia. They are supposedly both good quality and cheap. Also their website sucks, which I find encouraging.
They do frequent US tours, and they just emailed me to say they'd be doing one in the first week of April or so. Anybody else interested in getting in on this? Apparently they set up shop in a hotel room, you come by and pick out all the fabrics and get measured, etc., then they make it back in Thailand and mail it to you. They also do women's clothing, but I just mentioned suits because let's be honest: .83 is a sausage fest.
Anyway, if you're interested let me know.
That is all.
EDIT: I'm sure the natural question will be "roughly how much?" I'm awaiting an email reply on that very question and will update here.

Seeing as the last suit I have purchased was in 2003, and when I was 50 lbs heavier, I am intrigued and wish to subscribe to your newsletter. As long as it's cheap. Not like I use a suit on a daily basis.

I happen to be a lady (though this is unconfirmed, according to lando) and I own 2 fine suits. One of which no longer fits (beer is delicious). I might be in for this, do they do lady pants? miniskirt powersuits?

the timing might not work for me, as I will be Cabo San Lucas most of that week, but I am interested. You're doing good work there, Jon.

I may be interested in this as well.
Also, as Jeff mentioned, anyone know a decent but not too expensive tailor in Seattle to take-in some shirts designed for someone much wider than I?

The guy from ExcelSuits mailed me back. He had this gigantic wall of text he wanted me to forward to everyone who was interested, but here's the key take-aways:
1) Shirts, pants, jackets, whatever. He can make pretty much whatever you want.
2) He will have style catalogues and fabric swatches to look at, but if you have a picture of something you want go ahead and bring it. They can replicate the style from most of the major label designers. (Yay, Asian knock-offs!)
3) He says the average jacket/pant combo is around $250-270.
4) He takes cash or credit card, but credit cards will take 30-45 days to process.
5) You'll get your clothes mailed to you after 3-4 weeks.
Finally, he says he'll be here around April 10 but will email or call me 7 days in advance. I will keep ya'll posted.

i went to cambodia 2 years ago and had a couple suits made for me while i was there. the work was great and they fit wonderfully. if i didn't get those i would be in on this in a heartbeat.
i had two suits made for about that price. still though, that's a great deal for custom made clothing.

Thanks, Derrick.
I just want to say that I know $250 ain't exactly a drop in the bucket, but having had custom clothes made (I paid almost this much for a single shirt made locally), I have to say that I still think this is a fantastic deal (you can easily pay a lot more than this for a suit that only sort-of fits). Clothes that are tailored to you fit so well that at first I was uncomfortable because I thought it was too tight. Then I realized I'd just been living my entire life in this nether-realm between approximated sizes, and now those are my favorite clothes.
I'm stoked for this. Hope some of you are, too. The tailor asked me to coordinate for ya'll, so I'll let you know when I have more details.

I just got an email from the tailor. He says he's expecting to be in town on the 19th and 20th. My plan is to see if I can arrange for him to come to my condo on Wednesday the 20th, and you all can come on by and get fitted there. I will probably also pick up a big bottle of bourbon so we can sip it on the rocks and feel fancy like they do in the movies. I like movies. And bourbon.
Also, he said that the suits would start around 280 depending on the fabric.
Here's the people I have listed as interested parties:
Lee Williams
Joe (Meatloaf)
Deven Wilson
Kevin Septor
Greg Barnes
Andrew Squirrel
Kyleen MacG
Has that changed at all?

Hmm. I am still interested, but have to admit that I do have some reservations with handing over that kinda scratch to a guy who's leaving the country, and promises to send me a suit later. Unless I'm totally off-base with that assumption.

We are confirmed for 7pm at my place this coming Wednesday the 20th. Sonny (the tailor) has sent me yet another set of suggested instructions... he loves them so. In a nutshell, since this is precision measurement it would be a lot better if you were already dressed in the style of the clothes he'll be making. Here it is:
A - Please wear a suit or shirt that you have that fits best so we can see how each individual like to wear his clothes.
B - Do avoid coming in a T-shirt (singlet) or shorts and Specially NO JEANS to avoid miss-measurements.
C - Do avoid sports shoes, flip flops and other casual footwear to ensure correct measurements taking.
D - Do try to come dressed in a business shirt, slacks and proper dress shoes please.
E - Women MUST be dressed in pants and heeled shoes and if they have any item that want to be replicated please bring it along like dress skirt etc.
Do you hear that, women? None of your slutty skirts.
Anyway, Wednesday the 20th! My place! 7pm!
If you do not already know where I live, PM me. I'd prefer not to post my address on the forum.
I'll have a big old bottle of Jack Daniels for us to partake in.
Also, Deven! Tell your wife that you need to set a good example for your children about taking pride in their appearance.

This came up offline and I realized I'd forgotten to say it. I realize that showing up wearing a suit (or just nice pants/shirt) may be a little onerous.
In my estimation, it's not CRITICAL for you to look super awesome. If you're able to pack a decent shirt and pants that fit you properly (or are close) that will probably work just fine, even if they're wrinkled badly. Just do what you can and don't worry too much about it.

Well, that makes sense—I’ve only rode with you folks once, two weeks ago. I just saw this thread and it matched what had been bouncing in my head for a while, and figured I’d throw it out there.

Garth, if you want to come by you can. I feel a little bad for my previous response. Only way to meet people is to meet 'em, right?
