I would like to report that fall commutes in my car remain dry and warm as hell, and I now have a charger for my iPhone in there too! I have a multi-trillion dollar road infrastructure paid for with your taxes (thank you cyclists!) and I will continue to enjoy only the most abbreviated of legal reprimands for running you people down.
Jihad!
<sigh>

Scott, It's not really commuting if you're not going to work. Also, this is why you're fat.

My normal knickers + wool long johns solution is great in normal light Seattle rain. In this mornings heavy and very cold rain it wasn't so hot. My rain pants are 12 years old and don't breath much at all, I'm hoping these are an improvement.
Thanks for the heads up on the sale Andre.

Get your dork on: Barmitts in red and blue at JRA cycles for $30. Stylish black is twice that. Now you'll know which bike is mine...

Footwear? Triple sockin' it with a bread bag in the mix is not doin' it.
Sealskinz socks? Over shoe rain guards? Soggy feet suck!

Did that for a few road rides before caving and buying a set of Shimano RD-77's. I don't feel super confident going +30mph on slippers. Road rides here are epic but full drencher wet albeit "warm".
Researching Pearl Iszumi for now.

Has anyone 'round here tried installing SPD/Crank Bros cleats into any 'ol shoe or boot? I'd like to hear more success stories.
Sealskinz suck pretty hard compared to more pairs of wool.

just a guess, but you need really stiff soles on regular shoes for this to have a chance of working.

And some sweet shoe blocks, a medium sized bench vise, a router, and a drill.
Would like to convert some combat boots but haven't gotten around to it.

Just bought some myself this past week because wet/cold feet make me cranky. They are AH.MAY.ZING.

FYI, there should be a running version of the rei event jacket in the gear garage. Brand new., orange size large but fits like an xl. I just swapped it out for a different size.

I've had pretty good success with sealskinz. I wear a medium weight wool sock under and found a nice pair of Soloman shoes at Value village ($16!). They are a summer/mesh style trail shoe. Keeps my feet cool sometimes chilly but dry and then I don't get sweaty feet. Don't Put the socks in the dryer though the waterproof layer will deteriorate pretty quickly

This winter I have tried just riding in an Event jacket and light polypro baselayer. The rides start off chilly but I warm up quickly. The tight shell keeps the wind from taking my body heat away. In years past I have tried the other route, multiple wool layers. The idea being that the thickness slows down the wind before it gets to me. This works kind of ok but there are times when all that extra layer does is attract moisture, be that from my body and also from the humid air I am riding through.

Haters gonna hate. Ben, how much extra time do you have to spend at work to earn enough money to go to REI and buy that jacket?
Dude buys pre-made tyvek disposable coveralls and then just cuts 'em in half. Seems pretty easy. Even did some nerd science with a graph to show how well they work. This article is a gear nerd / ultralight backpacking orgasm. Good find joeball.

Minus some "measure twice, cut once" nonsense I didn't read, the instructions are literally:
1: Buy Tyvek coveralls.
2: Cut the bottom half off.
