Climbing shoes. Or part of a trad rack. Or a better sleeping bag. Or blackjack and hookers.
On a completely related note: Hurray for funneling business travel expenses through the REi credit card!

Probably a 2 burner stove for use on my new sailboat. I don't need any biking stuff that I can think of.

My curiosity wants to know who got the biggest dividend, judging by Andrew's interest in 4 lego head lamps at 15 a pop he got ~60 bucks. I only got 27.04. Guess I gotta ramp up my spending....

I'm thinking that purchases made with "store credit" ie return monies, counts towards your dividend. I can't imagine otherwise how I accrued a $47 rebate, I didn't have any big-ticket purchases there in 2011.

I think REI's options kind of suck in the sleeping bag department.

I've heard similar. I've also heard that 2nd Ascent is a better place to get a well priced bag.

That's a pretty big loophole, considering how consistent they are in not allowing sale items to count towards your dividend. They really make gaming their system a rewarding experience.

More info pls. I usually have REI just refund it to my credit card, but you're right sooner or later that refunded money is just going to end up back into the REI coffers anyway. Can I really setup an infinite buy-return for store credit-buy loop?

I don't have a store credit card, and have them refund it to me as Store Credit. You get a receipt that is good-as-cash. Typically, I'll haul in whatever broke this time, return it, then march back and grab the same or slightly different part and walk out only paying taxes, and whatever else catches my eye on the way out, which is where they get me every time.

Is REI like Nordstrom where you don't need a receipt for returns? If so:

Example: My ex brings her brother's cycling shoes from Performance into the Tacoma REI, returns them for store credit, buys the same pair in her size. Boosh.

The only thing i really need to replace is my light pad. I've been rocking a z-lite for a while. Light as hell but it takes up so much room.
For roughly $60 after 20% and dividend. I've known the thermarest equivalents to be kind of fragile and Sketchy tells me these are much better. Anybody else have an opinion?
I must say, I am jealous of this plateau, I am rapidly approaching & aspire for those beautiful zeros. It's a good thing to walk through REI realizing you have more than enough gear in the basement.

Henry: I've had an Exped DownMat for about 6 or 7 years and it's been great. It doesn't pack down as small as the ultralight Thermarest (which I also have), but it's not too far off, and it is very comfy.
If the SynMat is made to the same standards then I'd guess that it is good.
I will say that I've never had problems with my Thermarest NeoAir and it's been in fairly heavy use for the last 3 summers.

Henry I was also considering that pad. I have looked at it in the stores compared to the neo air. Things I liked about the Exped over the Neoair: quieter fabric, longitudinal chambers, comes with stuffsack and patch kit.
I was in the issaquah REI a few weeks ago and saw one of the original neoairs marked down to close to $100 but I still passed on it. I'm still having a hardtime stomaching paying over $100, let along $175 for an air pad. Of course now I want a down underquilt for my hammock and those cost twice as much. Unfortunately I can only buy a stupid expensive air pad with REI insurance, not a down underquilt.

I rocked the z-lite backpacking the PCT and afterward... lasted for a couple months of straight use everyday, but now feels like I'm sleeping on a floppy piece of cardboard. I think I'm going to scrap it.
Now I use the Air Core from Big Agnes. It's a bit heavier, but significantly cheaper. If you're not going for Ultra-light thru-hiking, I would say it's good to go, no problem for bike camping.
Comes with a stuff sack and patch kit as well. Nice and thick, allowing you to sleep on snow if needed (has a higher R-value that the Exped SynMat UL 7), and most importantly it's Super comfy compared to that damn Z-lite...
After reading about some of yous guys experiences sleeping in hammocks in the cold I brought my pad with me on the last 2 bikecamping trips.
It slid around a bunch and I was wondering if anyone had any solutions to this problem? Also packing in a pannier is not ideal as you can see hur.
Before I had the rear panniers I strapped it to the rear rack. Now it actually stays dry but it's screwing up my aerotuck. My max speed in 235mi was only 38.6mph. super lame times

Fold the pad in half lengthwise before rolling and it fits easily into even a small Ortlieb. If you are camping with someone else then put them together before rolling and you can get two into one stuff sack.
For hammock camping here I strongly recommend an underquilt over a pad. They have the downside of being expensive, but they are warmer, don't shift
around, go up past your shoulders, deploy more quickly. My underquilt is from JacksRBetter in Virginia, and I think it is called the Nest.
If anyone is interested in a halfway solution you should buy my Hennessey Supershelter (it is a foam pad and tarp that hangs below the hammock...isn't as nice as a down underquilt, but it is a lot nicer than having a sleeping pad in the hammock). $60 for the pad and undertarp? http://hennessyhammock.com/catalog/insulation/ has more details, I have the one that fit the Ultralite Asym (now called the Explorer Asym?)

i just blew my coupon & dividend on buying a 4-piece titanium cook set (the REI branded one is on clearance, marked down to $69 from $99), and an interesting Vargo decagon burner. Tested it out, and it certainly cooks OK, but I think I still need to get a tank-based burner for longer campouts where I want to cook something other than soups and stews.

I will buy a new Yakima tandem car rack, that I cannot really afford even with my dividend, to go with the new tandem that i am ordering today, that I really cannot afford in any case.
I have yet to ride with y'all (Eastside Yuppie Scum that I am), are tandems welcome on the Tuesday night adventures?

Making a crappy joke before Joe has a chance do so in his nth post of the day.
Tand'em? I hardly new 'em!
Yes. Tandems are acceptable, unless it's a recumbent tandem. GROSS!

Is this the way to go for tandems on cars? I've got a trunk rack which has worked well for moving Clair's bike and mine, but I'm guessing putting a tandem sideways along the back is a bad idea.
Any length problems the other way? We've got a Golf, and while I haven't set them side-by-side, I think the tandem is just as long as the car.
