I found out the other day that my vacation time was yes-but-no'd buy the big boss. I almost quit right there on the spot because of it. It seriously took all of my self-control not to lose my shit. After months of looking forward to and planning for this ride it looks as though I will not make it.
86'd Derek and I may ride it or a similar route in the future if we hear good things.
Hope y'all have an absolute blast. I'll be dreaming of the high desert all weekend.

Donovan, Thanks for the very kind offer, I actually found a at the bottom of my camping gear bin. I took 1-2 of each item and placed them in a ziplock baggie so I should be good to go. I also found a big roll of gauze in my apartment, score!
Lube question:
Should I be bringing a more viscous lube or a thinner lube? Is one better than another for dry, dusty conditions?
My intuition says use thin, more fluid lube.

Photoset is up!!!! Still high on happiness today. This was the most challenging, beautiful and emotional weekend of my life. When physical & mental exertion combine with breathtaking landscape, hundreds of friendly people and perfect weather you can't help but tear up a bit realizing your whole life has been building up to this moment. Even though I wanted a shower by the end I was looking for ways to delay the inevitable conclusion. The last 12 miles of intense headwinds felt symbolic, the Oregon Outback didn't want me to leave, and neither did I

I'm still processing the events of the last week.
On the one hand, I'm very much disappointed that I didn't finish the route (I made it to Prineville on the morning of the third day completely exhausted from having ridden two back-to-back 100 mile, 12+ hour days and decided to break off and take a more direct route back to Portland). By the time I rolled into Madras at 250+ miles in, my right knee was no longer working and my nose wouldn't stop bleeding. I stayed overnight in a motel and hitchhiked back with another rider that had also DNF-ed due to saddle sores.
On the other hand, I got to meet and spend time with some outstanding people and see parts of Oregon that I would never have explored otherwise. It was beautiful and brutal. For everyone that was a part of the experience, I can't thank you enough for sharing that journey with me.
