Pallets!
Nah, I was thinking more along the lines of dilating the blood vessels near your skin, to give you that warm, fuzzy feeling.

the bathroom in my basement was semi-flooded this morning as well. After spending $450 to get the sewer line repaired LAST WEEK this morning I stumbled into to pee only to soak my socks. I nearly gagged.[/quote]
That's shitty bro. I hear yah.
One of my best friends owns my house so I feel really bad having to keep tell him all the crap that is going on.
He already has to replace the carpet soon, looks like this will speed it up.

Back in the Dark Ages I studied with a prof at Ohio State's Byrd Polar Research Center. He did mostly large mammal population studies, but being stuck down in Antarctica with all the other nerds he learned a few other things. While the spike in worldwide and oceanic temps has risen in the last 100 years, it also follows a pattern of rising and falling temps that have been documented from ice core studies that read back thousands and thousands of years. If you look at recorded temps over the past 10,000 years (I'm too lazy to look it up too, maybe at work when I'm bored) you will see a pattern of spikes and this one is nothing outstanding. Whether it is human related or natural is up for debate, ad nauseum. There are too many variances in atmospheric science to draw any conclusions. The changes in the past 100 years are a mere blip on the earth's radar and is nothing that she hasn't seen before. If we lived a few hundred more years we would see temps going back down and/or leveling off. She will adapt and adjust like she always has before we ever impugned her lovely shores.
Does this mean we should all chuck our bikes and buy stock in General Motors and join Dubya in his boycott of the Kyoto Treaty? Hell no. There is such a thing as an ozone hole that is unprecedented and the immediate air quality of our environment. I enjoy breathing the clear early morning air rather than the choking smog of SUVs at rush hour. We all do our part to make a small difference where we live, and I think that makes as much a difference as trying to effect the whole world. Think globally, act locally and all that hippy jive.

The rise in temperature (speed of increase) and carbon dioxide increase is greater than scientists have observed from any source in the past (Ice cores, tree rings, etc). This is not some blip. It is real and the new information coming out is causing scientists to say their predictions are too low for how hot it will get. They used to say 2 to 5 degrees C rise in average global temp. Now they are saying 5 to 10 degrees! We will see some shit in our lifetime! Katrina was nothing! The debate over whether global warming is real and caused by humans burning fossil fuel is OVER. The discussion now is what the fuck are we going to do about it.
I read some disturbing news today. As we burn more oil and coal, we are taking oxygen out of the air. As CO2 rises O2 is decreasing. At 6% we all suffocate.

I can pull up the data and generate time series plots of atmospheric CO2. You can totally see the increase.
I should see what we have for temperature data. I do know we have modeled data going back to 1948, but I don't know what we have for observational data.
Aaron is at least half-right. The climate is warming. Based on historical data, glaciers and ice caps are retreating. CO2 is higher than it has been in 650,000 years.
My opinion on this is it's anthropogenic influences amplifying natural climate variability. It may not be strictly industrial age either. There are suggestions out there in science land that we first started seriously influencing climate back when the Chinese (even though they didn't call themselves china then) started clearing land for rice cultivation.

John Christy is one of the "debunkers" of global warming. He bases his view on satellite data. However, other scientists just discovered that there was an error in all the satellite measurements and those measurements back up other global warming data. The general public still thinks that scientists are divided on the issue of weather (pun intended) or not global warming is real and if humans are causing it. Well the "debate" is pretty much over, but there are still many "experts" out there that are debunking global warming.
The sad thing is that no one is really talking about what it would REALLY take to stop it. Having fewer children and using less energy are the ONLY things that would have any effect. That ain't happening. World population is booming, no scratch that, exploding, and energy use is up 2 to 5% per year.
