So, who plays bike polo around here? It sounds like fun, I wanna play. Any tips on building a mallet?

Polo is sooo much fun! A lot of guys just use bamboo for their mallets. I think it's pretty much up to you when it comes to how you want yours. It should be unique in some way.. the way you know who's playing the next game is by seeing who's mallets were thrown in first!
It should be hefty, but not heavy.. you want it to last, but your arm will get tired.
I've been wanting to make one for a while, but always forget about polo. It's always awkward for me when I go, I don't know many of the guys there and I'm shy and they don't show any intrest in getting to know me, so it's kinda weird for me. It's always a blast when other people I know are there too, though!
Would it be a waist of that Land Shark to make it a polo bike?

I might have an old lacrosse pole to chop into a polo stick. I don't have a second frame that is big enough for me to make into a polo bike, the one I got at Messman's race is around a 51'. Anyone want to trade for a chris-sized frame?

Thought you were fixing that up for a pretty girl?[/quote]
I've not obligated myself to anything. I will see her next weekend, and will gauge her interest in coming into posession of a bike. Right now she's one of those kids who drive 12 blocks across Pullman to avoid the boogey-man and crappy weather.

THe crutch mallet is pretty rad, he used the part that bends around handle (the crutch handle) so it has a nifty bend in it.

We could have a mallet-fashioning party in the machine shop here at UW some night. If somebody could bring a bunch of golf clubs / ski poles, and a few plastic cutting boards, we could crank out a bunch of them in a night.
We could get way fancier than that, if anyone wants to. But quick & dirty is good enough for me!

Problem with that one is that the "heads", if you will, aren't very big at all.. you can scoot the ball all over the field, but to make a goal, you have to hit the ball with one of the heads of the mallet.

Rules? Damn.
Well we have a wood shop too, if we want to make the other kind.

Of course! The ones I can remember are..
No foot down.. you put your foot down you have to do a complete circle before you can be back in the game.
Scoring must be done with heads of the mallet.
Uuum.. to play the next round, you must be one of the first 8 to throw in your mallet (I think it's 8? guess it would depend on the size of the "field"..)
Last person in has to split the teams. Typically, he/she picks up all the mallets, holds them behind his/her back, devides them evenly, without looking, and throws half on each side of the field. That's why having a sweet custom mallet is good, it makes it easy to see what team you're on!
Um, I am sure I'm forgetting stuff, but I'm not sure what. The rules are online someplace, surely..
