That first article is kind of cool but the ending is so fucked up.
Hey! It's raining, I better not bike.
I can't wait to tear Southern California a new asshole when I go home in a few weeks.

Southern California was built with the car in mind. If you live and work in the same general area it could work out living by bike. The light rails are springing up and they're getting pretty convenient for non-bike trips.
If I ever have to live in LA again, which will never happen, I'd live in Los Feelthis or Hollywood so I'd be near the subway, lightrail, and bus systems. Then I'd also be near downtown and the train station.
Obviously one of the best parts about being a bike person is the subtle subversive nature you adopt. That and passing cars in traffic.

My favorite things about riding in Bothell:
1) Passing cars on 527
2) The look on people's faces when I do a snot-rocket at the traffic light.
3) Seeing cars lined up behind me going up the hills on 524 because the pussy in the car behind me feels the need to change lane when they are passing me (I appreciate the thought, but passing me by more than 3 feet is probably excessive).
4) The chick at the supermarket the other night who said "I've never ridden a bike in the rain before..."
5) Locust Road.
6) People stopping in the middle of 527 to let me cross
7) Commute time by bike: 55 minutes. Commute time by car-45 minutes.
This one isn't bothell-specific. But riding down the BG this morning, I kept noticing the cars weren't going any faster than I was. And they kept having to stop for traffic lights. Everytime I passed a traffic light and looked over at the cars, the same group of cars were stopped.

Julia, my niece, is 3 and the size of a 5-year-old. She's getting a bike and helmet and trailabike for christmas. Whenever your daughter is in town, let me know, we'll go for a ride or something.

On my ride in I listened to the of the second article. Right at the beginning there was a commercial for a Lexus.
Ironic? Very Yes.

not about bicycles, but about cars and traffic:

Based on everything I've read, cyclists in the UK wish they had it as good as we do.
Funny about the women in SUV's being the most agressive drivers.
I've had a theory for a long time that a driver's income or percieved social position has more to do with how they drive. Richer or people who view themselves as socially powerful seem to have a greater sense of entitlement.
I guess this is more of a hypothesis than a theory.

I've seen more women angry at me than men. It's just crazy to see somebody's mom ready to punch you in the face for slowing them down for 30 seconds.

I have this vision of Dean and Denny in traffic. UNSTOPABLE!
