This is kinda a big deal.
The 2012 Republican controlled House Transportation Bill was finally just released and it is REAL BAD for biking and walking, reversing decades of bike/ped progress and returning us to 1950s levels of funding for those initiative, i.e. effectively 0%. I can not stress how important this is.
If this matters to you (and it should), contact Rep TODAY, i.e. RIGHT NOW and urge him to preserve funding for walking and biking.
Do. Not. Wait.
Here is a list of the House Transportation Committee members,

Find the ones from your States, especially if you're in their district and contact them immediately and urge them to preserve funding for walking and biking.
To give you some perspective, nationally biking and walking accounts for about 12% of all trips, but current funding is at l 1.5%. And we're still able to do a lot with that. But this would gut even that small amount of funding. Other proposals in the bill change lots of federal and state policies in ways that would effectively eliminate state funding and strip control of projects from city's and metro regions. That is all.
