At first I was going to make fun of the cyclist in the door zone, but can it be a door zone if the car is RHD and the doors are sliding?

It sucks the Seattle Times used that photo. I've been involved with the Greenways project, at least in Ballard. All in all it's a pretty legit project. We want to make bike arterials on, say, 58th St instead of Market, 17th AVE instead of 15th AVE, etc etc in order to make biking available to "willing but wary" riders who are scared of traffic.
What the photo has to do with any of this, I have no idea. I'm trying to get more people on bikes, and I think when people see that picture and hear that his battery cost $700 they'll probably get turned off.
I think I may start riding to work in this rain gear:

That set-up looks about as safe as front and rear disc wheels in a strong crosswind

Neighborhood greenways are fucking awesome. I thought seattle was an easy city to ride in, but man, PDX is nice, relaxing, and the drivers are mostly even well-trained.*
The city puts in traffic calming devices: Speed bumps, occasional diverters, and bike/ped but not car permeable barriers with a refuge in the middle of arterials to cut down on cut through traffic. The infrastructure helps a lot with cluing drivers in to the fact that bikes are the prioritized traffic on the street, and mostly the problem with riding a bike in the street is the fact that car drivers are poorly trained and effectively unpoliced, so any passive infrastructure which aids the impression that this is bike territory helps immensely.
*unless you go outside of PDX. Then the drivers are redneck assholes.

I love the Seattle Times. If any paper could screw up writing about bikes any more, I'd pay to see it.
