The city is trying to implement some bike lane with a physical barrier on one or both sides for northbound and southbound bikes traveling along this street, from the ship canal trail junction on the north end, by the Fremont bridge, to Aloha St latitude. They've probably revised the specific plan and dimensions, and are going to be open to discussion on this on Wednesday afternoon, by that outdoor movie theater in Fremont.
In other news, Tom at Seattle Bike Blog is posting the Seattle Bicycle Advisory Board meeting agendas
before they happen now, which is great.

So now they're committing to a design that goes under the Fremont bridge instead of connecting to it
that'll make the cycletrack itself much less of a deathtrap without that hill, though hopefully they keep it possible to climb up on the sidewalk there
I'm sure Tom will keep lobbying for all kinds of terrible bullshit though

I swung by for the open house (all of 5 minutes). There was a question answer session going on. Someone asked what the speed limit was going to be. 10 miles an hour. $3.6 million for 1.3 miles Too slow for too much. At that price they should have a fast lane or change the name to Westlake Cycle Byway.

I've submitted my comment to them, but i'll share my bitching here too;
3.6 Million to duplicate access a block away so wah wah people don't have to climb a hill, while down in SE Seattle/ Rainier Valley the only safe throughways are either miles out of the way (Sacajawea Trail, Lake Wa Blvd) or the sidewalk. That's a bunch of bullshit and discrimination.
I also found that the traffic counter they put up to accumulate data for volume-based funding is waaay the hell south on the Sacajawea trail on Othello, past where most of the traffic originates & travels. Whatever, disregard the hundreds of cyclists coming out of Mt Baker/ Columbia City stuck riding on Rainier or the sidewalk...
Get off the sidewalk and come ride in traffic like a grownup.

You know what, I'm going to be that guy. I love CYCLETRACKS. I love the fact that they want to put in one on Westlake. I love it because I think it's absolutely silly that cyclists have only one path from Fremont to Downtown(unless you want to wind your way along the ship canal trail over to Myrtle, and then climb up into downtown, which adds 2+ miles to my ride to DT)and that path goes up a friggin' hill. If you want more people to commute, put bike paths on where they go.
Yes, there are some cyclists who regularly commute up Dexter. Heck, there are a lot of 'em that do that. But, there are MORE who commute along westlake, and it's a goddamn gauntlet in that parking lot. I feel it only makes sense to put cycletracks where they're gonna be used first. That's how Portland did it.
WWPD?
There. I said it. YOU HAVE MADE ME BREATHE REALLY HARD THROUGH MY NOSE.
