I have a schwalbe stelvio on my back wheel, and it seems to ride pretty nice. No tread, but tough and grippy. Also, I like 25s for the road, but then again I'm fat and run over shit.

I've only had trouble putting everwears on my wheels, maybe my rims suck or something, but so far armadillos have been the shit. They may not make the price cut, but I've skidded on them for at least a month, and I changed mine early. Every time I mention these langston usually mentions that they're the same as his... yeah, I always forget, maybe marathon plus...
Go for 700x25 (700x26 for everwear), 'cause seattle pavement sucks and you get more gear-inches! //because a couple millimeters matter?

I ride on some schwalbe blizzards which are a step down from the stelvios in price. They have a kevlar belt and I have not had any puncture flats in the 6 months that I've been riding them, but I don't know how well they'll stand up to skidding, I try not to skid too much. This is probably a decent deal as long as the tires are in good shape.
