I have not threatened physical violence to anyone. If I did it was in jest, not serious. That is a crazy accusation!
I backed up DBS because David is my friend. (I will gladly forward my emails to anyone that wants to see the conversation between me, Peter and David) I did not expect PWC to cut him off. I told PWC that I had no problem with DBS selling the lights. Peter told me that the problem he had was that discounted prices were posted on a public fourm (internet) and that the shop did not appear to have regular hours. I did not want to do any harm to DBS or .83. I was not trying to get back at anyone, nor do I expect everyone to always shop form me. I would be happy if DBS stocked lights and generators from PWC.
The fact is, this was a backdoor deal and was not a stocking order for DBS. It was for and by club members only. David did not know the extent of the deal. That and the reasons above are why Peter recalled the shipment.
If you are mad at anyone, then direct it at PWC. Both he and David will tell you the same story.
Again, I had no idea that Peter would cancell the shipment, and cut off DBS. That was not my intention. I had expected that he might give him a call about it and the discounting. That is all. Also, according to Peter, the order was not a stocking order for DBS. He told me he compared his invoice with the spreadsheet online and line-for-line it was the same. That was not OK with him either.
This was nothing more than Chris Nygaard getting a deal for his buddies. You got caught.
I gave .83 spoke card holders a 20% discount for over 2 years. I only stopped doing so after the TOS created.
At one point I lowered the discount to 15% because 20% was killing all profit. If no one cares about price, then why does everyone always ask for a deal and come in quoting internet prices? I know many of you have access to the QBP website and know what shops pay. Since you do, and don't care about getting a discount, then take
with you next time you shop and offer to pay that price. Discounting does nothing good for anyone. There is a reason 1000 bike shops go out of business every year in the USA.
Finally, I am truly sorry for what happened. I reapeat, I was not trying to do any harm or get the order cancelled. I have no ill will.
But put yourself in my shoes. If you saw someone cutting into your business by way of discounting (Kalen had already told me he wanted a light and I had one on order for him), what would you have done?
Would you have told Peter White?
By level playing field, I mean selling at an honest price.
Discounts should be taken at the cash register on a one-on-one basis.
It should be up to each individual to ask for it each sale. Kind of like cutting a coupon and taking it to the grocery store.
Shops offer discounts as advertizing and good will. I thank many of you for not always taking the discount. Sure my prices are higher but my employees are happy and paid well.
