rear brake on a fixie?
Hey guys... I've been out of commission for a little while because I got my mountain bike stolen and then broke my ankle 2 weeks later. But now I'm back on my feet again and I'm about to have my friend build me a bike.
He has a Bianchi Pista frame that he had been planning on selling but since I just got my insurance money back from my stolen ride I offered to buy it and then pay him to turn it into a bike for me. This guy is a good friend of mine and has been trying to get me to let him build me a bike for about 2 years now, and I've been wanting to get a fixie for riding in Seattle.
I've taken some rides on a couple different fixies before so I'm not totally new to it, and I'm quite stoked about getting this thing set up. However, my Father (who bought the late mountain bike for my birthday) has been doing some "research" and thinks fixies are really dangerous and doesn't want me to go this route. He told me he wanted me to get both a front and rear brake for it if I decided to build this bike. Since it's basically his money I feel I may have to respect his wishes.
But a rear brake on a fixie? Can you do that? I've never seen that before, and I don't want to be the laughing stock of the fixie world for doing that...
I had been planning on using a front brake and just doing the skid stop thing like everybody else... Is my dad crazy?
Anyway sorry that was so long winded, let me know what you guys think.
