That is certainly an option. How easy is it to thread a fork like this?
I would rather have Bianchi pay for a new fork though, although $50 for a new surly fork ain't bad.

Yeah, short steer tube is clutch.
But I also have a hacksaw, so if it is long...
I don't really want to spend dollars unless Bianchi USA decides they are not going to replace the fork, and from the sound of it, if the fork need replacing, they are all about holding true to their 17 year old word.
I'll keep you posted.
BTW, who are the Bianchi dealers around here? EBB? The guy from Bianchi USA said that if the fork does need replacing, he would need a bianchi dealer to measure and spec the existing fork in order to ensure proper fit.

***********UPDATE*************
So after some back and forth, it looks as though Bianchi is indeed willing to stand by an 18 year old recall and replace a fork on a bike manufactured in the early 80's.
Old fork is going to EBB to be measured.
New fork will be express shipped from Bianchi USA to EBB.
EBB will install the new fork.
Bianchi USA will pay for the installation.
Despite equipping all those annoying tapered-jean wearing androgynous emo capitol hillpsters with Pistas, I am liking Bianchi USA quite a bit right about now.
Anyone have a 1" threaded headset they are willing to part with for some dollars or beverages?
