I've seen tons of bikes with tt and other bar-end brakes around town, and there are no piles of corpses building up at the base of Pine.
I use a tt brake on my fixie, and it's completely fine.
"ZOMG those brakes are TOO HIGH PERFORMANCE for you! You'll die!"
