The very first tool kit I bought was something like this

but I knew no bike wrench friends then nor what jobs on a bike I would be doing.
Over the course of 2 years or so I accumulated enough bike specific tools of better quality to replace the initial set. These tools let me to do 95% of the tasks I felt like taking on at home. I would often buy them as the job came up or if there was a sale. I have mostly Pedros and Park tools.
