Apropos of nothing, here's a nice article from the CTC on mixing and matching shifters and derailleurs from different manufacturers. The hubbub method of running the shift cable to the derailleur mounting point is presented here for your education and elucidation.
I'm running Campagnolo Ergo 10 shifters on the front, and a Shimano Sora derailleur on the rear and it shifts very nicely.
Of course, you can always throw money at the problem with the JTek Shiftmate.

I "threw money at the problem" with the shiftmate when I bought a campy drivetrain and then couldn't afford a campy wheelset. It cost me less than $40 parts & labor at ABR, which for the most part was worth the hassle. I've never had to work on it and my derailleur works great. Don't be afraid to put a nice shimano one that costs half of campy, unless you're an equipment snob (which I understand)
