okay. i've got my route tentatively mapped, but the piece im missing is a decent map of the Iron Horse/John Wayne trail, and or any details on getting from said trail to Yakima, the Tri-shitties, then to Lewiston ID. I see which roads take me there, but i don't know if they're bike "friendly". i'm good via the Lewis and Clark trail to Missoula, then i can take Transamerica route from there in to Co. (descending the Rockies into Boulder via Boulder Canyon Drive is gonna ROCK!)
anybody have some advice on this missing piece or know of some sources i can look at?
thanks all!

My mom lives in Boulder. She rides bikes and is about your age. I can give you her number so you guys can get together and listen to Leftover Salmon, wear Chacos with socks, eat dairy-free yogurt and drink Left Hand beers.
When are you doing this ride? I've been wanting to do it for a while now.

my vote is that a trailer is the opposite of necessary for distance. if you're going to be hauling this stuff hundreds of miles, i'd suggest bringing as little of it as you can get away with.
