So I got the old fork out, using a hacksaw, and went to Recycled to pick up a new one.. I saw a road disc fork and I had to have it. So I bought it, and some road V-brake levers and a front disc brake. The stopping power of the bike now rocks, but the rear brake is pretty much unusable because the new levers don't have a lot of mechanical advantage since V-brakes pull a lot of cable. Also, Tektro's road levers feel awesome and look like ripped-off Campy.
I'm planning to stick a V-brake adapter and V-brakes on the back of the bike. It's going to be totally sweet. In fact, it's already totally sweet. Anyone got such an adapter kicking around? I'm interested in the brakes too, but much more confident that there'll be some in the parts bin at Recycled.
Stuff to trade... A 650A fork with half a stem lodged in it, a 1" threaded headset that's probably in okay shape if you clean it off and repack it, a 650A front wheel with new tire, nutted axle, and bearing that seems okay, set of OG ten-speed brake levers, centerpull caliper brake, in decent shape, with arch wire, yoke, and a headset spacer/cable stop, a new(ish), tall 1" stem for a threaded headset, a really stubby threadless stem for a 1-1/8" fork and 25.4mm handlebar. Beer.
If good cycling technique is poetry in motion, mine's a dirty limerick.
