Offset Rims

So, sometime thursday night, I managed to bend the bead set on my velocity dyad straight off the rim using only tire pressure. I'm pretty sure that means that rim is shot, and it needs to be replaced.
I'm thinking of replacing it with a Velocity Synergy rim, the ones that are offset for rear hubs so that the spoke tension remains symmetrical.
what should I be thinking about when building up the wheel? does the offset rim compensate for the dish completely, meaning that the spoke lengths should be the same? will I need to tension the wheel differently?
One other question: how big of a deal is this offset? Should I even bother?

a quick crunch in spocalc for a shimano deore xt hub laced to a synergy o/c, 36h three cross:
left: 292.0
right: 291.3
for a non-o/c synergy:
left: 292.5
right: 291
the synergy o/c has a 4.0mm offset. erd is 604mm. my numbers for the xt rear hub are wL 35.3, wR 22.1, dL 44.0, dR 45.0.
it appears to change the spoke lengths by just enough to get them the same, but they were only ever 2mm different to begin with. on the other hand, l/r tension goes from 63% with the non-osb up to 84%. that seems significant.

I have been chastised several times for not cleaning my rims enough. They are profoundly abused by both my inattention and fat ass. I will hope that I will be kinder to the new wheel and those won't be a problem again.

I scotch-guard padded my rims last night, was too lazy but probably should have checked for embedded material in the break pads too for good measure.

Lee's math has convinced me. Offset it is!
